OKAY. THIS IS WRONG.
- *doesn’t (sorry, haha)
- That is totally false. Junk food isn’t what makes you fat, it’s going over your daily caloric intake repetitively. Sure, it’s much easier to do this with junk food since it’s calorie-dense due to its high fat content, but if you ate 200 apples a day you would gain weight, too. Your body doesn’t care if you’re eating McDonald’s or organic veggies, it will still deal with the energy the same way.
Actually, you are also wrong.
There’s a difference in the sugars in a Big Mac and the sugars in an apple.
The Big Mac contains simple sugars, which our body doesn’t need to break down in order to use. However, apple have complex sugars like glucose and fructose in which it actually takes energy to break the sugars into smaller sugars that the body can then use for energy. At least, thats my understanding of it.No, I’m not wrong at all. I was talking energy in energy out, not the process in breaking down that energy. You are right, but your point fails to make me incorrect because no matter the process it takes to be broken down, energy is energy. Peopl think that fruit and veggies “don’t count” calorie-wise. Everything counts. Just the fact is that it’s easier to stay in the right calorie range so long as you’re eating lower calorie foods.
We could go into the specifics, but that still doesn’t make what I said wrong. Junk food is bad for you and doesn’t provide you with adequate nutrients. But you won’t become fat eating junk food UNLESS you consume too much of it and go over your limits.
No. If you eat 2000 calories of junk food a day your body won’t expend much energy to digest it.
However, if you eat unprocessed whole foods, 2000 calories of them…your body will expend more energy to digest them.
It’d be a small margin, but you could essentially find a calorie amount that causes you to gain when you eat junk, and maintain when you eat whole foods.

You’re missing my point, which is extremely simple. It’s not the food specifically that causes weight gain, it is the CALORIES. Yes, whole foods do in fact take more energy to break down, HOWEVER, if you eat enough of it to go over your caloric intake for the daily NET CALORIES as in, you eat enough apples or whatever to go over 2,000 calories or whatever your intake is, AFTER your body has still utilized energy in breaking it down… You will STILL gain weight. That was my only point. You just made this way more difficult than it needed to be. Clearly there are many advantages to eating whole foods (and obviously I’m an advocate for that), but it’s inaccurate to say junk food causes weight loss. It is NOT a direct relationship.
That’s all I said, end of story.
